My wife and I are in a free state, but are homeschooling while school behaves more like prison.

I've already got the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, and the Federalist Papers as required reading.

Any good documentaries you can recommend on American history?

Also, can't want to do field trips to the gun range when we study the 2nd Amendment...

History channel “Washington” 3 part series, “The Men Who Built America” Series, Frontiersman about Daniel Boone, Lewis and Clark etc. and “The Men Who Built America” Innovators about Vanderbilt, JP Morgan, Carnegie, and I recently saw a series about “US Grant” The history channel has a liberal slant but these documentaries are excellent.

Old history text books. Like books published in the 50's should be still readable but without as much of the social justice nonsense.

The problem you'll likely face isn't teaching WW2 or anything before. There's plenty of great sources on all of that. The problem you'll likely face is Korean "war"(technically a police action) and everything after.

Everything in the last 70 years is so political. What parts do you even cover? Do you explain that all this LGBTQP++ crap started with the stonewall riots? Are you going to try to teach US history independently of world history? How do you get into communism and it's ongoing attack on humanity? How do you even begin to explain that neoconservatives are war mongering communists who invaded the Republican party?

Sorry, off on a slight tangent there. My suggestions:

  • Old history text books like REALLY OLD
  • The Bible
  • There was a guy at the 1776 thing held at the white house. There was a guy there that had written a textbook recently. I forget his name and the name of the text book but it might be worth looking into

We enjoyed: The Men Who Built America Frontiersmen. It was a History Channel mini series on taming the west and individuals who played a primary role. It gives great information, is Enjoyable, and brings up some good points for discussion.

Take a trip to Charleston, SC, to see where the first shot started the revolution. While there, you'll see all the different colored houses in downtown C-ston. The reason why they're painted so colorfully is because of superstitions. The bright colors were put there in order to scare the ghosts away. Now it's mandated by local laws that the color of each house can never change or be altered.

Will definitely be using the Civil War as an example of how people manipulate history.

You'll want to study the Swamp Fox in great detail. The Francis Marion area of SC is pretty striking too.
