I'll say this. I have brain damage from a ruptured brain aneurysm that has caused cognitive issues, mostly with planning, organizing and multitasking. There is no way I would be able to pay attention to moderators, listen to a device and answer questions coherently all at the same time. Looks pretty obvious. So the sudden stuttering issue was actually an earpiece issue.
This makes much more sense to me. Though the earpiece is a cover for his dementia/puppeteer, the stutter was a cover for the earpiece.
