They need to stop doing debates with these stupid fluff-style puff piece prompt questions and instead keep it more general. "President Trump, what would be your plan going forward on COVID? Ok, Joe Biden, your response." If the candidate chooses to respond with a campaign speech rather than call out their opponent, that's their choice. But if the two opponents seem willing to duke it out with one another and call each other on facts and achievements, then that's the way the debate should be allowed to go.
The way this debate was structured left no room for rebuttal. It was just "here's your two minutes to answer the question. Now moving onto the next segment." People like Biden can look good in these debates because they can just ramble out 20 lies in their 2 minutes and then the other party can never respond.
And I don't want to hear shit like Wallace tried to say where "Trump agreed to the format." The candidates don't really get a choice. Its either agree to the format or don't debate. Plus debates in the past have rarely ever stuck to their original formats. For godsakes moderators, you're there to plant topics of debate and make sure the candidates don't veer wildly off subject. You're not there to write a narrative of each candidates position or convince the American people that one side or the other is right. These MSM hacks get too power hungry with the little control they have over these things and take it way overboard.
In a way I get why they choose news tv hosts to do these since their programs typically have short debates... but many of these guys suck. It'd be like Hannity being a moderator, it'd be a disaster, he'd be interrupting more than anyone else. Trying to tell me they can't find some national debate tournament moderators somewhere to do this?
