Big take-away, and perhaps goes without saying, but Trump won. Not as confidently as I would've liked, but he won. I think Trump did a much better job laying down his vision, and the road-map to accomplish that vision, while also doing a great job of showing the accomplishments of his current term. This is how you win elections.

That being said, he needs to dial down the aggressiveness just a bit. No, he didn't "nuke himself", because he was a little too aggressive, however, it could hurt his standing among potential voters. Remember folks, he has our support, but he may not have every independent voter's support. The reason why the aggressiveness is important is, because Biden needs the time to hang himself, after all, Biden is gaffe prone.

*Keep in mind that Biden is not nearly as hated as Clinton.

It should also be pointed out that while Biden did slightly better then I expected, but he still gaffed, a lot. I don't know if the gaffes were as severe as I would've liked, but they were obvious enough that the independent viewer will see it. Biden also appeared to lack vision, and a solid plan. Upon discussing the debates with people in my life, I could hardly recall exactly what Biden's platform is. This is really bad for the Biden camp, as after all, he's supposed to be selling his campaign to the American electorate.

*Though his debating was poor, any sense of verbal coherence is still a victory for Biden, since the expectations of his cognitive ability are so low.

I'm also risking a down-vote, but I'll put this out there anyways. I'm pleasantly surprised that Biden got hard-balled from Chris Wallace. Yes, Wallace was harking on the President too much, but he asked good questions to Biden. I can't fault him for that, regardless of how I feel about how he treated POTUS.

Final note, if anyone here is concerned about Trump's performance last night, don't be, as an incumbent typically has issues with the first debate (i.e. Obama v.s. Romney 2012). The path for GEOTUS's victory is dialing back a little, while causing the divide to expand between the far-left, and the neo-liberals (referring to Biden's comments on law enforcement, I'm sure the far-left didn't like that).

I suspect that Trump will win the next two debates, and I also suspect that Biden may have used up all of his energy he had in this debate.

My thoughts on high-points, and low-points for each candidate:

Trump's High-Point: China Virus lockdowns, and the human impact they have.

Trump's Low-Point: Over Aggressiveness

Biden's High-Point: Encouraging calm to his supporters on election night (I really had to pull at straws to find a high-point for him haha).

Biden's Low-Point: Dodging Chris Wallace's question regarding if he called the mayor of Portland, and the Governor of Oregon in response to far left violence in Oregon.

TL;DR:

Trump won, but needs to change his approach for the next two debates. Biden came out better then I expected, but still was prone to gaffes. Was pleasantly surprised that Chris Wallace threw some good questions towards Biden's way, though I'm not happy about the way he talked to the President.

*If you need more evidence that Trump won, look at r/politics on commie-edit. They're not happy at all with how Biden did.

Great summary, I posted my thoughts in another thread not realizing this one existed, which is too bad. I’m of the opinion that Trumps camp probably monitors this space and will use the feedback to fine-tune his next debate preparation.

I essentially said that he has so many salient points and facts at his disposal that demonstrably position him in a league of his own compared to tired, trite Biden, but fell short due to being on the offense. I think people are on the brink mentally at this point and would appreciate seeing a strong, tempered leader in Trump. He’s got a golden opportunity with the riots and race mess, and he’s at his best when he’s fierce but focused. No need to fist fight Biden, just need to really dial-in his talking points on key issues.

Thank you! No worries about repeating points on other threads, it makes me happy that fellow pedes seem to be on the same page. I'd like to see Trump's prep team gather some of our thoughts on here, because we all want to see him at his best.

I agree with this. Great summary.

The thing I hear people screeching about the most is how Trump didn’t denounce the white supremacists.

Are the proud boys even white supremacists? I haven't been able to find anything suggesting so

Thank you! And yeah, I keep seeing that as well. I think that Trump's points were so strong, that they have to pull at straws to find something to attack him on.

I think a lot of folks on the left missed when Trump said "sure" to Chris Wallace when he asked him if he'll ask "White Supremacists" (big air quotes there) to stand down, probably, because it was in the middle of Wallace asking the question.

I was pissed at Wallace for trying to get Trump to say that Kenosha was the work of white supremacists. The kenosha kid did nothing wrong.

Lol it makes me think that the fake news doesn't know what a white supremacist is.
