Same here. This needs to be fixed asap. I don't believe it is caused by DDoS anymore

Okay, so maybe start taking donations to make it possible, like we’ve been asking for since fucking jump?

At some point, if shit ever really hits the fan for the elites the way we’d all like, will you be satisfied that the site is down and we have no way to communicate during a Happening like that simply because of some foregone “principle” that makes no objective sense? What if they try taking Trump out forcibly and it turns from soft to hard coup — what real organizing could we possibly do without this community?

I totally understand the mods’ reservations. But the stakes are simply too high for this kind of bullshit anymore.

Entirely fair, and you’re probably right — no magic bullet to be found here.

That’s what we get for not being able to host on AWS I guess, which like you said just is what it is.

How is it being hosted? It should not be hard or unaffordable for us to kick in to make sure we can all access the site for the next month, even if that means massive overkill for that month. All we need is overkill through the election at least. How much money are we talking? $500?$1000? $5000?

I’ve heard this argument, but I was denied service for nearly an hour last night. No way it’s no DDOS. The increased usage during debates can’t be sooo much greater it crashes our system.

Couldn't the mods close other threads temporarily and channel everything into the debate thread? This may be nonsense because I know nothing about how internetting works.

Yep. I was actually on and got kicked off. Couldn't get back. Feels bad man.

maleitch 2 points ago +5 / -3

That is not how websites work. You didn't get kicked off. You established and completed one transaction, then attempted a new one and the site was unavailable at that point.

Not a dig at you, but I really want people on here to be outraged by actual events. This is simply a case of too many people trying to get in to site that could not handle the amount of requests.

Ok! IDK anything about how this all works so I'll just shut up

If you would read the Cloudflare message it is not them. It is the hosting site that TD is using. They simply cannot handle the sudden surges in traffic which is very typical of grass roots websites.

Again...that last red X is for the hosting service. Not cloudflare.

I've come to the conclusion that the site must be hosted on something small or custom built. If I'm wrong and this is an AWS setup, then it shouldn't be hard to dump some extra bucks in Bezos pocket for uptime during the big events. But then Amazon could shut it down on Nov 2 with little recourse. So I'm guessing the mindset is durability over reliability, and it might be a lot harder than we give the mods (=gods) credit for, when we say "just let us throw money at it"

1
ddragon 1 point ago +1 / -0

But isn’t that something we should be able to throw money at to fix? Whether it’s more server or more bandwidth, that’s something we can add more of

Cloudflare is the exact opposite of suck. They're the biggest there is. Problem is that they tend to be targets of ddos attacks.

I thoroughly believe it’s the woke leftists engaging in DDOS attacks against the site anytime a major political event happens.

The woketards think they’re doing a good job dissuading us by removing our safe space and platform to speak our minds without ridicule by the Marxist left.

1
Saremei 1 point ago +2 / -1

Pretty much is just that.

The mods really gotta step up and allow us to give them donations so that they can run this website better.

What good is this site if it can’t even be accessed during some of the most important events in the election? This is a huge opportunity for the admins to grow the site and instead they are letting it fail when it matters most. Imagine if RSBN reported every day but on the day of debate their cameras all failed and they had nothing to show. This is what this site is like.

I dont think we are being DDoS'd, I think we are doing it to ourselves.

Can I just say what a fantastic problem this is to have? You guys covered to other side. I am just happy we have to have this discussion.

It seems to me a good business model (no idea if possible) would be "surge pricing" - basically keep things running but charge a premium when needed.

Cloudflare should be paying thedonald for the free load testing service.

Overall, it's been pretty good. They get the site back up quickly.

I would be totally fine with them selling some advertising space so they have the money for more servers and some upgrades. There has to be enough traffic to bring some decent revenue. If it goes down every time something big happens, it's going to hurt the site. I couldn't access it at all during the debate.

2
ddragon 2 points ago +2 / -0

Or we just kick in for what’s needed. That way they aren’t beholden to advertisers.

1
hansgruber7 1 point ago +1 / -0

That could work too. I'm sure there are plenty of based companies who would love to advertise though. I would be happy to see a Goya banner from time to time.

we need China to throw us a few bucks for more bandwidth. /s

It seems likely to me that it's DDoS interference from overseas, perhaps compounded by US-based botnets controlled by leftists.
