I never understood why voting precincts started moving to voting machines. Paper ballots are so simple and inexpensive. Get a heavy crowd - just setup more privacy booths. Need to do a recount - just run them through the machine again. I guess voting machines make voter fraud easier.

I’ve been to the “warehouse” these machines were taken from. Not a secure facility at all. It’s an old WWII electronics factory that has a few odd businesses and a bunch of non-profits. A portion was leased to the GSA so we got stuck using it for the 2015 Papal and 2016 DNC security coordination center. Really swell part of town, too.
I remember looking down through the rooftop windows and seeing stacks and stacks of voting equipment. No reason for computers and thumb drives to be stored like that.

Don’t worry, they’re just the sticks used to set up the ballot and what buttons count towards which candidate. Oh, and they also are used to record the vote totals. Absolutely nothing to worry about.
Those sticks are only needed for the machine that they are locked to, which means we can't use those machines either but it's ok because we have these other machines with serial numbers that don't match up with our logs that magically appeared that I'm sure there's nothing wrong with.

That’s why we used to have precincts. Each precinct was purposefully small enough to count their votes in about one hour. Another hour for the cities and counties to gather up the votes from the precincts — UNDER THE ACTUAL EYE OF A SHERIFF— and about an hour for the counties to report to the state. By 10pm local time, the vote counts were in. In time for the 11pm news.
