NYC used to be tough. That's all pre gentrification and such- Rudy saved the city, make no mistake, but "hard men create good times, good times create weak men," and you get what you have here.

NYC has slid into transplants and hipsters, and most of the tough folk are either dead, or moved out. No, not even out west, usually into the counties, or upstate.

There's plenty of based people left there, of course, but like most good conservatives- most good people, really- they want nothing more than to be left alone.

That said, what Warren Wilhelm has managed to do in six years gives me pause. He's not only unravelled Bloomberg's legacy, but Rudy's as well. A quarter century of prosperity, undone in just over a half decade.

Communists truly are exceptional.
