26 million leftist. Not 60 million. Lucky if they get 15 million to actually vote. They are stealing the election only through the media. Vote counts won't matter, they will simplyb declare him Joe the winner and we will have a long legal battle or short war to settle it. P.s. the other side through mattis still has military control is some areas. Fifth columnist in our military.

We can set up our own domain servers. The only reason the domain name system works right now is that everyone agrees to not fuck it up, which it is very easy to do.

Well china already has one. North Korea also. They say Russia will and the EU next. Sad but true. The truth hurts. So let's make like 10 different internets and play on our own yard instead of seeing the other side.

Get European socialist off our internet too

22
LittleRedRidingPills 22 points ago +22 / -0

THAT is the foreign political interference everyone should be gravely alarmed by. Reddit in particular is positively flooded with European Socialists who spend all day, every day, screaming about our internal affairs.

But Leftists clearly don't give a shit. And that speaks volumes.

15
Licensetomeme 15 points ago +15 / -0

Funny because none of these socialists actually live in a socialist or communist country. I have. And I'm most vocal against it. If you want to prove that socialism works, lead by example. But given that places like Sweden, long lauded to be socialist, are quite literally capitalist with socialist-lite policy (its corporate tax is neck and neck with the U.S., it has no minimum wage, etc., etc., only difference is its personal tax, but the same people who screech about Trump only paying 750, though actually paying 5.2 mill, don't seem to get there are ways to write stuff off and avail of tax credits markedly unavailable to those who can't afford it) and have no business calling themselves anything of the sort.

Also, there are many people out there who are literallydying to get into this country to escape where they came from, so instead of trying to change the very fundamental nature of a country that is on the polar opposite side of the economic spectrum, why not trade spots with them and try to change something that already leans on your side? It's the mark of privilege to live in a free country and advocate for authoritarianism, which socialism on a large scale necessitates. Wouldn't it be easier to do it there than in America or elsewhere?!?

The whiny little bitches who live in your country who reap the fruit planted by their ancestors and have the audacity to spit it out in disgust represent the most pathetic, regressive, and ungrateful, privileged little worms I've ever seen in my life in any parts of the world I've lived or been to. Funny is, most of the ones I've met are outright weebs. The Japanese laugh at people like these ingrates, as do most asians..... Live there (in Asia*) a year and you'll see..... I grew up there (in Asia*) for 10.

5
Licensetomeme 5 points ago +5 / -0

Read the last part over and realized it seemed to insinuate me living in Japan for 10 years, which is untrue..... From the Philippines then moved to Hong Kong. Been all around Asia, including that one scary country.......... Macau, Thailand, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, so on and so forth.

True poverty (not relative) hardens men. Privilege emboldens the ignorant. Ignorance breeds the resentful and the covetous. You get a bunch of privileged manchildren who don't know what actual poverty is like, who don't understand how hot water is a privilege, what police brutality is like, you get a bunch of privileged idiots who feel emboldened to demand more.

And I don't mean to suggest that there are parts in America that couldn't use some work. They do. But that starts from within. If the Philippines, a country best known for literal islands of trash, islands that people not only live in but eat from, have some of the most disproportionately high representation in medical fields, there is no fucking reason why someone who lives in the first world cannot fucking strive to do. Shut your fucking whiny traps and be thankful you do not live anywhere else. You wouldn't last a day.

P.S., not you lot over here. You all are swell.

Next, they need to get on their own power generation plant. I’m not sure where they are based, but some utilities are owned by cities, counties, and foreign parties. LA was trying to cut power on Grace Community Church.

This is easier said than done.

Just because they have their own hardware doesn't mean they can push their content on the internet.

What they are attempting to do is not easy and they better have their ducks in a row.

Yeah but that's not at all what they're doing.

Owning your own server doesn't mean dick.... Millions of companies own their own server hardware.

Plenty of websites that own their own servers have still gotten shut down too, so that really doesn't mean much there either....

6
drfooser 6 points ago +6 / -0

one primary control of the internet is address allocation. The borg owns that. And that single control knob is sufficient to black out any unwanted content provider.

That is why ultimate independence requires a alt internet.

6

1
kalokagathia 1 point ago +1 / -0

Having your own server. Doesnt mean much. It has to be hosted somewhere. In a colocation facility or somewhere with backbone connectivity for high throughout.

Thr FBI seized riseup.nets server from a colo in 2012 because of bomb threats. There's more instances.

4

Small addendum. Normies getting "smartphones" ruined the internet. It was a much saner place when one's ability to handle technology was a barrier to entry. (Kinda like ham radio without licenses.) If you broke your computer and couldn't get it up and running you were out.

Now all they have to do is hard reset their smartphone. Content is pushed on them. People are becoming somewhat smarter to this though.

Don't fall for the trap in believing that certain generations are better at tech than others. I have run into teens who couldn't figure out drag and drop, and I have also had little old ladies who could hold their own. It's all about whether or not you respect the technology and don't treat it like some sort of strange sorcery.

They are simply using colorful language, but they will never own their own internet....

They will own their own corner of this regular clearnet the way millions of other companies also do, but there's a big ass difference between that and actually having your own Internet protocol.... Which they aren't even attempting to do.

Now having their own browser is doable I suppose, although I don't know why they would do that or waste their time on it considering they are quite a few great browsers already out there that aren't cucked...

Of course all of that is unless they are trying to start their own service based off of blockchain, but I mean thousands and thousands of companies also do that themselves, so there's really not anything revolutionary or special there... And the sites that do that simply do it as a backup, but they rarely get much traffic at all

4
FraudInsurance 4 points ago +4 / -0

Don't know about the rest, but they do have a browser already: https://dissenter.com/

They could create their own internet that exists in parallel with this dying internet, and even piggyback off of it to connect users. There is a giant meshnet in Cuba that is practically its own little internet where an entire slum can play vidya together. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lEplzHraw3c Its possible to create a mesh of wireless connections that routes data through the network as well.

GAB is literally just a Twitter clone and is in no way even capable of building a new internet. They simply do not have the experience or technical knowledge.

There is only one company building infrastructure to replace all of big tech from Facebook/Twitter to Google and Amazon that is based and has the technical capacity and experience to do it

Im confused by the building a new internet statement. Is gab an autonomous system with an id now? Are they building their own root dns server? Are they a clec? I spent over 10 years working in NOCS for ISPs and I think this statement os a little overblown. It just sounds like they built their own data center.

6
Walbort 6 points ago +6 / -0

The term "internet" is sort of ambiguous. Anyone with a router advertising BGP to the internet is effectively part of the internet. You're right about them having just built their own data center. They state in the article that having a Gab satellite is a stretch goal. It's an interesting idea. I think what they mean by having their own "internet," is that they have enough control of the individual processes involved in connecting a user to services they host, so that it's difficult or impossible for those who currently control this stuff to stop said services from being accessed.

In Gab's current state, as well as if they keep moving toward their own internet, there are a ton of ways their opposition can make things difficult for them (at the ISP level, CND level, their ISP, DNS, domain registrars, operating systems, browsers, payment processors/banks, FCC, legal/litigation, fines), but there are also plenty of ways to circumvent these (VPN services, their own DNS servers, hosting in other countries, custom browsers ie. Tor, block chain, and ultimately somehow providing their own interconnect to their servers directly to end-users). The more they act to silence Gab, they blatant and authoritarian they have to be. Ultimately, Gab can put them in a position where they either have to stop trying, or risk going too far and pissing too many people off (look at the Great Fyrewall of Chyna).

The custom browser approach is probably the most compelling. They can bake in VPN, DNS, search, and all sorts of other networking trickery, into an easy-to-install and easy-to-use package.

2
no_step_on_snek 2 points ago +2 / -0

It is marketing jargon designed to take advantage of widespread ignorance of the technology.

Gab had an opportunity to help create a more free and open internet. They were forced by the big tech giants to adopt an open source server and protocol so that users could have access to third party apps. They decided to break federation with that open protocol.

Their goal is to create a walled garden, an echo chamber, a cult of patrons. They don't care about free speech, or open internet, or any of that. They care about monopolizing attention and steering behavior, just like their competitors.

The bifurcation of the internet is inevitable. However you need to think about payment also. As you go up the chain of self reliance you realize how difficult it all is to achieve. True freedom of speech is a fiction that might have existed online for a brief period of time but not again for awhile.

2
Walbort 2 points ago +2 / -0

Ultimately, you can edit your "hosts" file and manually add gab.com. But this also raises the question of whether your ISP will firewall traffic to Gab's IPs. There are ways around this with VPN and proxy services, but ISP/DNS/CDN nonsense like this will effectively filter out a lot of people who don't understand this stuff or don't know what's even happening.

2
Kronder12 2 points ago +2 / -0

Hate to tell this to Gab, but they can get your domain registrar to cancel your domain for wrong think. They've already done that to a bunch of sites. So it doesnt matter if you have a server if no one can find it.

And as they have already done with Gab, they can get the credit card processing companies to all refuse to do business with you so you can't sell anything or accept donations. Gab sells some merch on an alternate site but one day they will go after that too.

There need to be laws in place preventing blacklisting or cancel culture. Only then can we have true freedom of expression and alternate platforms.

2
Bonami 2 points ago +2 / -0

Well that is a start, but they can shut you down, trust me. Go to JimStone (http://82.221.129.208) and search his archives for how you should set a site up to last through attacks. Good luck!

2
BigCovfefe 2 points ago +2 / -0

This doesn't mean anything. They can have all the servers in the world. They are still at the mercy of the ISP that their data is riding. AT&T, Verizon, Comcast etc. If they don't like your content they can just ban your traffic to their users. I'm assuming GAB has fiber coming in from either 1 or 2 of these sources.

2
MythArcana 2 points ago +2 / -0
