You can get a free number like I did on Google voice. Start by making an anonymous Google account (you should have this already) then go to Google voice and get your number. Verify Twitter with this. I've been banned from Twitter twice - all I do is flame and trash and troll and insult and demean liberals and it's good fun.

Yeah, you got it. I didn't even use my phone for the Google voice number/Twitter confirmation, I got it on my PC using the Google voice chrome app.

A free VOIP number (Google voice, for instance) does wonders.
AFAIK Twitter wants a real cell phone number. Amazon has trial SIM cards for a few bucks, these do work. If you enable Two factor like Google Authenticator afterwards, you can throw away the SIM card.
I literally use a Google voice account for Twitter that isn’t linked to a cell phone. Not sure if you can still get a standalone google voice number, but that used to be doable. Just have to be logged into the throwaway gmail account the number uses to get the Twitter text.
