They can always say "oh oopsie we didn't adjust the cameras properly". Maybe they just wanted to make Trump look orange...
That being said it's clear that Joe has a flesh-color earpiece in his right ear, the one the cameras do not look into during the debate (unlike his left ear). This can be seen very clearly at the end of the debate when his wife meets him.
He might still need lenses, though. What special lenses could those be? Three possibilities:
Just dark lenses because all the drugs he's taking give him light sensitivity.
Polarized lenses to allow him to read a hidden teleprompter, such as a tablet held by a member of the audience.
Some super hi-tech lenses that allegedly can display text... not sure if I believe in those.
(The last two would have to be fairly rigid, and I don't know, maybe they can cause eye bleeds if improperly adjusted?)
I think the lens thing is possibly but it's hard to prove, while the earpiece is blatantly obvious to anyone with at least one working eye and the accompanying brain.
