They are authoritarian at heart, so they love these pandemic restrictions and take every opportunity to promote them and point out any perceived lapses in compliance. For example, we recently had Republican candidate forum here in my town and almost everyone was wearing a mask, but there were a few people (maybe 5% of total attendees) who took them off after that sat down. The local newspaper did an article on the even and published a photo of the crowd. The local Democrats went nuts on social media, REEEEEEEEEEEEEing about the few people who had their masks pulled down and the perceived lack of "social distancing". Several of them threatened to notify state authorities and boycott the venue.
Like I said in another post, NY has been masking up since May.. The Mask requirement is strictly (for the most part) adhered to. I have seen very few if any customers or employees without masks. In some stores (not all) they have hand sanitizer upon entering or leaving. Others handed out wipes to clean where you put your hands on a cart. Many types of businesses are still closed (theatres) or open with outside or limited capacity. So it’s not “opening up” driving a spike here.
So I ask, if masks are so effective then why the spikes?
The masks are useless in preventing the spread of the virus, but you will never convince the Branch Covidians of that. Instead they claim that the virus is spreading because of a few people who don't wear masks. It's important to understand that the Branch Covidians love the virus. They take great joy in the fear porn, in every announcement of spikes in cases, and in every death of a younger person, because it validates their feelings. They not only love the masks, lockdowns, and quarantines, they advocate for even more draconian measures. They will actively resist anything that jeopardizes the fear.
Yeah, I think it’s a fair conversation. I asked this same question elsewhere and I was downvoted into oblivion. People have taken mask wearing as gospel here. I wear one myself as I said, you won’t be served without it. Yet, spikes are occurring in these same masked up areas. How is this possible? Rates were sky high here. Then it dropped and N.Y. was very low. Very little draconian measures have changed. People still mask up... Yet here we are they claim infection rates are climbing. Why is that?
