I honestly think Trump thought he was being coerced into saying something he would later regret and was playing it safe. I think he was sensing another "will you concede the election" like in 2016 and felt he was being pressured into saying what the Left want him to say.
He's very good at recognizing that but he's bad at breaking down the question based on interviewing knowledge and rules (he's not a journalist and shouldn't have to but they've weaponized their own rules against a boogey man enemy that doesn't exist). If he did, he'd be appealing to the invisible layer of criticism. That said, I'm not interested in him changing because no one should have to jump through "fuck you" hoops to want to do good and be productive with friendly competition. It's fucking retarded.
