Turns out, she wasn’t just abusing me, she was abusing them as well.
If I had left her on my terms, I would have been in a much stronger position legally and custodially. It wouldn’t have cost me nearly as much.
But no, I just had to stay for the kids, that was... until she left.
Many tens of thousands of dollars later, I found out she was making my nine year old son sleep outside on the concrete patio (the dog got to sleep in the kitchen). He found an old newspaper from the trash to keep warm at night and some rotting sponge for a pillow.
I could have saved him that and at least a quarter million dollars in legal fees, had I done it on my terms.
