You have to mean what you say and be sincere. A lot of religious people don’t actually have any supernatural faith and religion for them is just like a big social gathering.

They don’t actually believe that the Son of God walked the earth, performed miracles, and rose from the dead after being crucified for our sins. They fear ridicule at the notion of believing such a thing.

Sincerity is the key. You either mean it or you don’t. It’s not hard to tell whether or not you’re being sincere. The insincere people I suspect are the ones who have never prayed to the Lord alone in solitude when nobody is watching or listening.

These people might go to church and they might publicly call themselves Christian but not once have they had a personal moment where they’ve really turned to the Lord and asked for guidance and forgiveness. Because they don’t have real faith.

If you can’t convince yourself that you’re sincere then that’s your problem. You’re probably just a mental case. If you’re sincere about your faith then you won’t find the need to prove anything and you’ll have a clean conscience.

Sincere people, I believe, practice their faith in private when there’s nobody around.
