this is accurate. cloudflare actually has inherent ddos protection that black holes attacks before they hit the origin server. its pretty cool. the issue is this site cannot use full caching, since the content is variable. so all requests for data hit the origin server.
some other options would be to:
geoblock ips
limited caching for core page vairables, css, etc.
buying a bunch more servers and load balance the back end. (this has to happen at some point if the site keeps growing).
i dont think they are an actual host, but i didnt know about the Iranian shiz... they dns 50% of the internet and the overall platform and service is good. I use it at work, been impressed with the functionality and speed.
the only other severs sharing this IP/server node is two very small business sites. I sure the network congestion caused by can effect this site. But the times is very suspicious the during the airing of the debates (it stopped after) and now when news broke of trump about 1am having corvid till around 3am. I'm sure it can be more then one thing but feels more targeted at us..
The funny part for me was I was browsing like normal in the "new" section and decided to hit refresh. The site wouldn't load for me and my first thought was "What happened THIS time? There isn't a scheduled event right now. Wonder what newsworthy thing happened?" I don't have cable tv or twitter to use, so now I gauge important events by TD crashing I guess. I love this community. lol

Problem : With live events - people are refreshing the live thread to see new posts (this is bad - like really bad). That's 10s of thousands of requests every second coming in to see the new posts as they stream in.
Solution : Live chat window with scrolling text. No refresh required.

This news cycle 'seems' to be pure traffic as it's mimicking people waking up and hearing the news and then spreading it to others - who also then come here. These are hunches - but - I've seen similar user time-cycles all the way back to the 90s when we watched enterprise servers getting bitch-slapped during load balancing tests with new design deployments (specifically, testing the dynamic pages vs static page requests at satellite TV providers with millions of customers pounding the servers over the course of a day).
That requires server attention of a different magnitude and I can only guess at the number of Pedes / requests / and server deployment config. Each presents a rat-hole of options that need to be addressed for true load balancing. Obviously in an enterprise situation you can brute force it by having a shit-ton of servers - but in this instance - who knows how many they're using.
I'm always on the lookout for what big news the deep state is trying to cover up any time I see the DDoS screen here on TDW, which would seem to defeat their purpose. The left is pathetic and very, very obvious. Sheesh.
