They were probably pondering the option to blame Trump for Biden's infection. If they decided to do this, they might've spent the morning finding some infected people and having them cough on Biden for an hour or so, in the hopes he'll catch it. Because if he catches it later (too far from the debate), they can't blame Trump anymore, the window of opportunity is rapidly closing.
Of course I'm not QUITE seriously. But some thoughts and scenarios like this are definitely on the table in the Harris campaign HQ.
