Look up the CDC stats for Obesity and COVID, you will be shocked.
Last I checked, of the (at the time) reported 180k COVID related deaths only 6k had a comorbidity of Obesity. Obese people are not dying from COVID, maybe they are more likely to suffer more severe symptoms but they aren’t the ones dying from COVID.
Simplest answer is, obese people don’t make it to above average life expectancy and those people are the ones who do die from COVID.
Point being, if your obese it will not factor in to whether or not you survive COVID. Anyone telling you otherwise has not read the data.
