Even before this ratings were going down, same with the NFL. Both games are BORING. In the NBA, you have five guys on the court per team, but it seems that only two guys touch the ball. It is a predictable game with no real personalities that people relate to. Back in the 80's and 90's you had real STARS, even if you hated them they had a personal dynamic that made you hate them but also want to watch them. Now ? It is just a bunch of NPC's with tattoos.
