Why the hell does everyone have a beard these days? It’s not just hipsters and soy boys and it was happening before lockdowns. It’s like 65% of guys from 25-40 years old feel like they have to have one. What happened to the clean cut look?
My dad always had a beard. I've worn a beard since I could grow one- for almost 40 years now. My sons and son-in-law all wear beards. We are beard people. I don't even think of it as being a trend- it's just the way of life.
He won't though - he hates beards and constantly asks his sons to shave theirs because he feels they are unprofessional looking. It's a generational thing.

I'm adding a second reply because something occurred to me in the shower about why beards are having a resurgence.
In the before times that President Trump and I were formed in manliness in men was prized and celebrated. And men were generally assumed to be manly until proven otherwise so there was no need to make any big visual display of it. What manly men did want to display was that they were civilized and reliable and not animals. And I think being clean shaven was part of that. It makes sense that in a world where manliness of character and action is disrespected and considered toxic that many men would grow beards in rebellion to show that they are still real men.
I’m in my 20’s and I hate the look. My GF even wanted me to grow one and I told her not a chance. It’s sloppy looking IMO + it makes my face feel gross and hot all the time whenever I am doing physical labor. The only reason I’d grow one is if I was living in a much colder climate. Like where lumberjacks work.
Right. Also, I forgot one last night: psychiatrists. I think they all wanted to look like Freud. Like commie dudes all wanted to look like Lenin. For some reason no one ever seemed to want to look like Stalin. But mostly beards came in a standard set with sandals and love beads and fringed leather vests and the sickening smells of BO and patchouli. It's a memory that doesn't fade away. Even after half a century.
Totally agree. A nice well-trimmed beard looks great, and hides a bit of the baby face. Ted Cruz is case in point for this as well. He looks sooooo much better.
