I don't understand why new users have the ability to post.

On behalf of all based, non-commie new users I’d like to say that some of us are genuine pedes who are glad to be able to join in the fun from the get go. Also, if new users couldn’t comment for a set period of time, the spammers would still create lots of accounts continuously. They would just wait out the required time until the accounts would be allowed to post, then go ahead and post their spam anyway.

I have no doubt many are.

But it's exactly as you say - they would be forced to plan ahead instead of just botting a bunch of accounts whenever news breaks. This is a very common system used on almost all old web boards because it's simple and it works, and wouldn't impact people like yourself.

I would also take it one step further - require some small amount of positive comment karma in order to post. Even just getting 10 points would increase the barrier to entry.

There needs to be some method of making an account 'worth' something, rather than infinitely creatable.

The positive comment karma is a great idea, and one which I think would go a long way to reducing this problem. Hopefully the mods will implement this.

Irrelevant here, because half the board upvotes every fucking thing posted. There isn't even a way to downvote threads, just upvote them.
