As a trained Public Information Officer, all I can say is that this doc did a horrible job of answering / deflecting the question. Repeatedly insisting that GEOTUS is not currently on oxygen only invites more questions about him being on it in the past. Watch his expression and intonation; you can tell he was trying to thread the needle. No big deal if GEOTUS was on oxygen; we see overpaid pro athlete soyboys sucking on oxygen on the sidelines every Sunday. If he was truly never on oxygen, just say it and leave out the qualifier phrasing.
But yes, the press really sucks. There were so many other questions they should have asked.
My guess is as soon as his test came back positive and he had a slight fever and fatigue, they immediately asked him to take some oxygen until they could do additional testing to determine the status of where he was at and until they could get some therapeutics ready.
There is absolutely zero downside to taking oxygen and some possible upside to it, so it would have been irresponsible for his doctors not to give it to him.
The media would however start a big deal about it because they're scum, so I think he just decided to lie about it in the end because there is no public benefit to saying that the president was on oxygen.
Agreed. Prophylactic oxygen therapy isn't a cause for concern. "Hey, you're feeling a bit weak? Let's give you a boost."
If his SPO2 levels were slightly low, it would help raise them. If they were very low, he was having trouble breathing, and required oxygen for comfort or survival, as a medical necessity, there would be cause for concern. It seems that was not the case.
If he required a ventilator? Well shit, then there'd be cause for panic.
