We're a group of people who will sit for hours, days, even weeks on end performing some of the hardest, most mentally demanding tasks. Over, and over, and over all for nothing more than a little digital token saying we did.
We'll punish our selfs doing things others would consider torture, because we think it's fun.
We'll spend most if not all of our free time min maxing the stats of a fictional character all to draw out a single extra point of damage per second.
Many of us have made careers out of doing just these things: slogging through the grind, all day, the same quests over and over, hundreds of times to the point where we know every little detail such that some have attained such gamer nirvana that they can literally play these games blindfolded.
Do these people have any idea how many controllers have been smashed, systems over heated, disks and carts destroyed 8n frustration? All to latter be referred to as bragging rights?
These people honestly think this is a battle they can win? They take our media? We're already building a new one without them. They take our devs? Gamers aren't shy about throwing their money else where, or even making the games our selves. They think calling us racist, mysoginistic, rape apologists is going to change us? We've been called worse things by prepubescent 10 year olds with a shitty head set. They picked a fight against a group that's already grown desensitized to their strategies and methods. Who enjoy the battle of attrition they've threatened us with. Who take it as a challenge when they tell us we no longer matter. Our obsession with proving we can after being told we can't is so deeply ingrained from years of dealing with big brothers/sisters and friends laughing at how pathetic we used to be that proving you people wrong has become a very real need; a honed reflex.
Gamers are competitive, hard core, by nature. We love a challenge. The worst thing you did in all of this was to challenge us. You're not special, you're not original, you're not the first; this is just another boss fight.
Gamers are certainly one of society's most oppressed groups. Being a bit of a gamer myself I have experienced the true oppression that I’m sure others feel to an even worse degree everywhere that I go. When I am out in public I do my best to hide the fact that I am a gamer simply so I will not be constantly harassed. Once in I while however, I may slip up and spit out a small reference to half life or something else that irrefutably proves that I am in fact a gamer. Once I have been discovered there is no going back. I have been forced to move out of several communities and even once had to fake my own death and move to Ukraine (where I currently reside), just to stay alive. People often will beat me up assuming that I am easy prey due to the nature of being a gamer, when I was still in high school I was once caught playing mario 64 on my ds in the bathroom, and that was the end of my social life, my girlfriend broke up with me and all my friends began to bully me due to the fact that I didn’t play football but instead played mario. Later in college no one would let me go to parties, and I would often be used as a punching bag when my other dorm members needed to blow of some steam, only due to the fact that I was playing COD on my xbox. The oppression did not end there though. When I was recently looking for a job, I thought that I had finally found the place, but when my old high school classmate saw my name on the list for people he would be interviewing, he instantly rejected me when he remembered that I was a gamer. Overall, I can say from experience that although racial minorities claim to be oppressed due to the fact that they may be more likely to be shot by a police officer or some other BS, they do not understand the true pain of being rejected by everyone in your life that us gamers feel. We are truly oppressed.
HAHAHA, this. ☝️ When you spent many 8-10-12 hour sessions grinding the same mobs over and over and over again for months on end to level up and cap in an MMORPG only to have the cap go up again just as you got to that imaginary number, so you start grinding again... no commie bs will ever phase you, back you up or wear you out, ever.
They targeted gamers.
Gamers.
