Is there a publicly accessible database of this information? If so, someone smarter than me can train an image dataset so that it recognizes ethnicity visually and compares it to the recorded one. Then we could get a more accurate breakdown.
I was reading about this the other day. Apparently lighter skinned Hispanics believe they are still Spaniards and not mestizo or natives. So they'll say they're white. People often forget that Caucasians still rule all of South America. So a dude will say he's white because that's the upper class in Hispanic countries.
It also could be the government trying to inflate numbers.
Upper-class Hispanics are Caucasians. Argentina and Uraguay are whiter than the USA. Caucasians are at least 45-50 % of South America.
