He was prolly in his mid 60s, im 57 so not too far apart. He asked me if he could drop a 40 FT container on the back of my property painted up with vote Biden and he would pay me 500 a month, I politely declined and asked why he was supporting Mr. Biden, long story short his wife of 40 years died early last month of covid and he does not believe Trump did enough to prevent it.
Now I honestly felt it was too soon to bring up how I felt he was wrong about Trump and what he did / did not do about Covid as I am sure he is still angry and grieving over his wife. I have not even lost a close friend to covid so I refuse to try and put myself in his shoes.
I asked him if she knew the Lord and he said yes, they both did but right now he is angry at God for taking her...again too soon to try and rationalize where she is at this moment, so I asked if I could pray for him, he agreed so I did, I prayed for comfort for him during this time and healing for his heart. Grieving is a tough thing.
I gave him my number and told him to reach out anytime he needed someone to listen, someone to pray with him, or even someone to rant too.
As he left, we shook hands, me still a Trump supporter, he still a Biden supporter, but a grieving one
And who knows, maybe he will reach out and ask why my support is where it is and I will gently tell him, or maybe I will never hear from him again.
Either way my friends, this is how it should be. Two people who disagree, but part shaking hands.
I wish it were more often
Thanks for letting me say this.
EDIT: While reading all of the comments about this I noticed a few that totally disagreed with what I did, and that of course is perfectly alright with me. But I do feel led to explain a little further, and I personally believe when I feel led to do something, its the Holy Spirit speaking to me...I call it listening to my gut cause some people get it, others do not. Anyway, I am a die hard Trump supporter, do not doubt this, BUT, for me personally, above Trump, above Country, above my own flesh and blood children is Jesus Christ, and I try my best to walk the ways of His word. And as Jesus was being questioned by the "elite" of the day, a lawyer trying to trick him asked more or less, how do I get eternal life? Jesus answer was (KJ Version) Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. This led to the parable of the good Samaritan. And this, is why I felt led to handle this gentleman the way I did, only the future will see if I made a difference, I may never know and thats ok. Jesus will know.
I do not think I will say anymore on the subject but am very glad to see the discussions it brought forth. :-)
This is what compassion and understanding look like. People are going to be unreasonable when they've lost a loved one, and the media does everything in its power to make Trump responsible for every bad thing (and never given credit for the good).
