These were part of my Grandfather’s collection. Horse pistol set circa 1760, London made by Seglas.

I’ve often wondered who the owner was and why they never made it back to England...a well aimed shot by a Patriot perhaps?

These are beautiful, I love historic weapons and always wanted a pair of old pistols like this. A true family heirloom!

Wow. They're like begging for flints being in this good of shape.

I am glad someone else noticed this. No flint, no pew....

Crazy that these things worked at all. Black powder, burning match (or in this case a flint stone), bore of the barrel, dimensions of the projectiles. All the metallurgy, blacksmithing, woodworking that went into each one. Pretty cool pede. Pretty dang cool.

You ever get a chance to fire them?

if they are actually that old firing them would likely be potentially dangerous or damage them. I wouldn't reccomend it. Plus, shooting them would result in a full cleaning that would diminish their value.

We should bring back duels.

Sanctioned duels at a official dueling arena. The pistols would be provided at the location. Official complaints would need to be filed and processed. You would then make your way to the arena with your opponent. The rules are simple, two enters and only one can leave. Unless both parties agree to a one shot each duel, which could result in both missing/getting wounded/killed. Back to back, take 10 paces turn and wait for the signal to fire, then shoot

I had a beautiful set like that. A Predator stole one and later gave it to Danny Glover. I never did get it back.

I have heard tell of such an event, but have never had the courage to view the actual footage.

Those are dueling pistols... Very good possibility those have actually killed a man.

Imagine whipping out that bad boy in a duel with an Antifa cuck with a skateboard. Better still, both of them.

Not a super expert but these look like light dragoon pattern pistols, often called the "Elliot" pattern pistols which were issued to British mounted forces starting about 1759. These pistols would have likely been carried in a pair by a mounted British officer in conjunction with a saber. Interestingly these are mounted in Iron and not brass as was usually seen on the light dragoon models, as well as having an early sliding dog style safety behind the hammer. Its possible these pistols were special made for whatever officer carried them. Most common caliber for dragoon pistols is .62 to .69 smoothbore.

Dr_Fakakta 4 points ago +4 / -0

Those things were no joke. Many had a caliber of around 13mm, slightly larger than a .45

A fine pair of unmatched pistols {sorry movie fans, these are not dueling pistols]. Pistols of any sort were an expensive luxury. they cost more to make than a musquette{ not a typo] See the latest edition of "Muzzle Blasts" magazine for a fine write up of and on pistols,.

Hey OP keep them safe and happy, and pass them to the Rising Generation along with the story of its origins

E-dantes 2 points ago +2 / -0

We should, as a society, make dueling great again. Maybe this commie shit would stop.

Sorry I'm late, but these are the coolest guns I have seen for a sunday gunday! Wondering who held them and used them the same way you wonder who spent a really old coin. So awesome, I've always wanted pieces like this!

Serious question: are there operational guns like this I can shoot at the range? Or are they purely a collector’s item in modern day?

5
NavyGuy 5 points ago +5 / -0

They would likely still function if you tried, but, metal that old could have microscopic cracks not visible to the human eye. Shooting them could damage or destroy them. They are a collector piece at this point. If he has the original box and powder flask and accessories its worth a lot of money.

Pretty sure in the US manufacturing replicas of them are 100% legal and require no manufacturing permits. So if you want you could try your hand just to see what it was like.
