Are they still to blame if they're funded and doing work on viruses over there, because it's unethical for them to be manipulating viruses here on United States soil? That's the only real global threat we're facing right now. The only way a foreign power can hurt us (there are no military threats for us). Probably a thousand different labs in China that could have done it.

And to be perfectly honest, I don't know much about it, but I know there are companies in China where you can basically just fill out a form and pay them money to do whatever kind of DNA/genome sequencing engineering they do (apologies for not knowing enough or explaining it well. Perhaps someone more informed can shed some more info on it) . There's also labs in China that will essentially synthesize whatever drug you want them to, so as long as one small piece of it is altered (from an already existing/scheduled drug), it's not technically illegal to then import it into the U.S (this is how all the fentalogues were getting in, and why there are so many benzo-derivative research chemicals)
