If you’re low on ammo and don’t have much to spend on the ridiculously priced ammo, dry fire is the way to go. (Do NOT dry fire with 10/22 rifles as it can damage the internals of rim fire weapons). The more you handle and manipulate your handgun, the more confident you will feel with it. It’s as important as live fire, plus it’s free and you can do it at home. I believe I replied to your comment earlier, but for home defense on a budget I’d recommend the Maverick 88 Shotgun plus a flashlight with a mount. Reddit sucks but lurk around r/gundeals and r/gunaccessoriesforsale, you’ll find something within your price range eventually. If you have a local Academy, BassPro, or Cabelas nearby it’s worth out checking what they got for ammo and guns (sometimes they’ve got good deals from what I’ve heard)

Flashlight setups I’d recommend:

  1. Elzetta Flashlight mount + Surefire G2X handheld

  2. CDM Gear rail mount + Streamlight ProTac rail mount OR TLR-1/TLR-1HL

You can sometimes find these flashlights for sale at a lower price on eBay or the Reddit subs I mentioned earlier. Normally I’d recommend an AR, but right now they’re really overpriced compared to pre-COVID and riots. If you have money to spare, some budget options are PSA, Aero Precision, Smith & Wesson. You can save money by either buying a separate upper and lower or building a lower receiver yourself. Let me know if you’ve got questions and I’ll be happy to help you out!

Edit: I forgot to mention earlier, but if you’re gonna be carrying that handgun for CCW make sure to have a handheld flashlight and a non-lethal option as well. POM pepper spray is cheap on Amazon and Streamlight Microstream pocket lights can be had for $30 on Amazon as well. Don’t forget a decent holster!
