They would love that. That's basically the worst move possible
The whole mic muting thing is a meme, there is no practical way to make it work. How would Biden know the President's mic had been muted? He could still hear him, they'll a few feet apart. Even if they were muted, they could still interrupt each other.
The idea is just unworkable in a live, in-person debate. Especially the next one, which is a town hall.
