For more Dewey-Truman lore:
Thomas Dewey was one of the forerunners of the RINOs. He was the governor of New York and the leader of the liberal side of the Republican Party, opposed to Ohio Senator Bob Taft's conservatives. Him losing gave the conservatives more traction and probably secured their place long enough to run Goldwater 16 years later. If Dewey had won, Taft's faction may have been suppressed by the Rockefeller Republicans permanently.
Generally, the factions leaders followed this pattern:
Conservatives/Populists: Bob Taft>Goldwater>Reagan>(nobody, H.W. rode Reagan's coattails and basically subdued the conservatives until 2010)>Tea Party hodgepodge>Trump
Shouldn't that be Trump Defeats Virus, or am I missing a joke here?
Edit: thanks for all the insights. Wasnt aware, makes sense. To the person that downvoted me for this. Man... get a life.
It's a meme from this event https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dewey_Defeats_Truman
and if we lived back then, probably in 2016 we would have had 'Hillary defeats Trump' headlines everywhere too.
Newsweek did. Trump signed a copy of it right over her ugly face. https://s3.amazonaws.com/content.washingtonexaminer.biz/web-producers/060817York-TrumpAutographedCover.jpg
Its a play on the Dewey wins headline of the 1948 election.
The original photo is Harry Truman holding up a newspaper that says "Dewey defeats Truman". Dewey did not defeat Truman.

So why did the headline say that? Was the media playing fucking games on purpose back then too? Well I never
They printed early because "experts" and "polls".
Haha really ! Lol
