Seriously, ever since 4.0 came out, and they desecrated Gary's Legacy, D&D has been trying to get woker and woker every year. I have literally never been able to show my wife a fun game with good players because everyone who plays now is the epitome of "Woke Freak", and she HATES being exposed to these insufferable people. (I have a bit more tolerance, but not anymore)
They run boring, simple characters, and due to the dumbed down rule sets of each subsequent edition, struggle to understand WHY certain things are done, it's all been rolled into one check.
The biggest issue is almost every character is a self insert.
"Oh I'm running a half orc rouge with blue hair, who fled her orc village because she didn't want to go to conform to orc gender norms, and is currently seeking a wizard so he can cast a spell on her and turn her into another gender"
Or
"I'm running a woman fighter who murdered her abusive father and is on a quest to become elected as a politician".
If you know anything about DnD you know how backwards it is. And the self insert is SUPER HORRIBLE because you have an emotionally unstable SJW who just had the character she spent 4 weeks playing as get killed by a pair of Pants of Devouring, and she's about to take it personally.
I used to think the silent players who just built High-AC monk builds and meme-lord druids were bad, but at least there are moments of fun playing with characters like that.
