I've seen more service employees, making minimum wage and no benefits, guarding the doors to JimmyJohn's like they're Fort Knox.
Too many people in retail/service that have been taking shit from others for years without standing up for themselves. I waited tables for years and have worked retail too, so I know the public can be horrible, but that is no excuse to get bitter. These same people are now using the masks as an excuse to vindictively get "payback". They see the masks as an opportunity to finally "flip the script".
They are all cowards, so I have not had any issues with them personally not wearing a mask, but if I wasn't as big as I am I am sure I would have.
I can see how they pounce on others, and can see them staring at me.
One thing I always try to make sure I do whenever I refuse the mask is try to be cheerful and smile at everyone I see while I'm doing it.
IMO, they are expecting the maskless dude to be defiant and looking for a scrap. I don't want to give some mask Nazi the pleasure of thinking they have actually made me angry. I am attempting to project an image of "business as usual" and "couldn't care less".
Funny thing is I get three times the smiles as I get dirty looks. Anecdotal evidence for sure but I find it interesting.
