The fact that Dave didn't understand his own skit and it drove him insane trying to reconcile his own internalized racism towards white people just pushes it to #1 for me.
I'm not saying he's not smart. I think he's one of the funniest people in comedy; maybe the funniest one alive. It's a fact that he has deep TDS and he admitted in interviews that he couldn't cope with people laughing at his skits from a post-racial perspective (he couldn't accept it). I'm saying that he's SO good at what he does and he's such a professional that he wrote something he was uncomfortable with just because it was the funniest thing and he worked on it until it was perfect even though it created psychological discomfort for him, went against his belief system and contributed to his depression and eventual mental breakdown. That's a legend if I ever heard of one. The man literally and figuratively suffered for the art. I don't think it's a criticism of him insomuch as it adds to the already brilliant work of art that could stand on its own without any deeper insight into the artist. I wanted to share because I think it's interesting and I think other pedes would also find it interesting, perhaps as huge fans of Dave, like I am.
