Ditto, elder pede. The wail of his guitar echoed off many a wall in my childhood. May it echo in the afterlife as well, amen.

RIP. Sad, but he lived a lengthy, 2.4 legendary rockstar lifetimes.

I bet he got more ass than a public bus.

For sure - but where's the love for Mackenzie Phillips ? (:-)

Mine too...

And now we can enjoy her delightful cooking show on Sunday mornings on the Food Network.

slaphappy2 5 points ago +5 / -0

That's awesome. One might add Phoebe Cates next to her by the poolside, having those Ridgemont High Fast Times.

2
slaphappy2 2 points ago +2 / -0

BTW, that photo may have been the inspiration for the Van Halen song "Eruption".

Such a good guitarist. May all the brown M&Ms be missing in Heaven for you.

Van Halen requested all venues provide munchies (M&Ms) and they must pick out the brown ones. This was done to make sure the promoter completely read their contract.

So much for a reunion with Diamond Dave, eh? Rip, EVH. We wouldn't have generations of noodlers without ya.

TrumpSteak 8 points ago +8 / -0

That's true. Honestly it's kind of what I liked about Dave. He was just front manning. Hagar obviously could sing better. Hot for Teacher, though. Classic.

It sucks he went so young.

TrumpSteak 4 points ago +4 / -0

Oh man, was it bad? Axl Rose level bad? Jim Morrison level?

12
Block_Helen 12 points ago +12 / -0

No. He could sing just fine, maybe not live after awhile, but Diamond Dave was Diamond Dave. No Van Halen without him. It's a moot argument.

Michael Anthony is one of nicest, down to earth “rock star” I ever met. Sammy was cool too but Mike was a regular dude. Cool without trying. RIP EVH.

They treated MA like pure crap. Removed his pictures off their website from all the album covers and he didn't even do anything wrong.

Leved Ed... but FUCKING THIS.

I know it's not Trump news, but thank goodness someone posted this here - I honestly wouldn't have known otherwise!

RIP Eddie.

Praise_the_Load 11 points ago +11 / -0

1978 I go into the record store to browse and the front display rack has their first album displayed with a hand written promo sigh saying "KILLER GUITAR" I pick it up and buy it. Got back to my hovel, put it on the turntable and had my mind fuckin blown! RIP man, it was a hell of a fuckin ride.

3
MAGAbetterargument 3 points ago +3 / -0

I always wondered what it was like to grow up in that era and hear Van Halen for the first time. Must have sounded like space music.

2
Praise_the_Load 2 points ago +2 / -0

It was a pretty awesome era. We bought tickets to see Savoy Brown in 78 at a little 5,000 seat venue in MD and some band named AC/DC was opening for them. They blew Kim Simmons and his boys off the fuckin stage. I went out the next day and bought their first three albums. Bon died two years later.

My parents favorite band was, and still is Van Halen. RIP to a legend.

7
Block_Helen 7 points ago +7 / -0

So sad. Van Halen was a major force in my childhood/teen years. RIP Eddie. We love you.

7
LastNameNull 7 points ago +7 / -0

I heard Eruption for the first time and my life has never been the same. True story. 40 years later and I am the proud owner of a nice EVH Wolfgang standard in a beautiful purple burst and an EVH lunch box amp. R.I.P.

3
I_Used_to_be_me 3 points ago +3 / -0

Sweet!! I had one of the early Peavey Wolfgang’s and a 5150 amp during my Van Halen obsessed years as a guitarist, great stuff!

6
Space_Force 6 points ago +6 / -0

Sad news. He was a giant and a true musical innovator that did things no one ever though possible on the guitar. To this day I can listen to VH and instantly be transported back to high school. Saw them live in 91, jaw dropping.

Godspeed Edward.

I_Used_to_be_me 5 points ago +5 / -0

Van Hagar was the far better band, Hagar a far better musician and singer; and I was praying for a reunion tour — They absolutely rocked live with Hagar at the helm. That said, Van Halen, under Roth, put out far better music. But, contrary to what many think, that isn’t the result of Roth being replaced by Hagar — It was the direction Van Halen wanted the band to go, and that music would have been written regardless of who was the frontman.

Dudemanfoo 2 points ago +2 / -0

Loved both versions.. this was well put.

Fuck, I even loved that time when Gary did the album... took years for me to like it, but there were a few pretty good ones on there... but WACF and FW were still my favorites... and I know they hated it, but DD was awesome too...

4
Block_Helen 4 points ago +4 / -0

Is this a serious argument? Lol

The soundtrack to my teens. He will be missed.

2

I still remember buying the first vinyl album when it came out and mounting my headphones for the first listen after my guitar lesson that day. HOLY SHIT, ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Music changed forever after that.

RIP, Eddy! It was a good run, even with the devil.
