Let me get this straight the same people who cry “whataboutism” anytime their hypocrisy gets exposed are rushing to stop the filling of RBGs seat by saying “what about the republicans in 2016” I never even heard this word until I started following r/politics and r/the_donald in 2016 and they use it nonstop while also engaging in it themselves. It’s just a word to hide behind when their hypocrisy gets exposed.

Hypocrisy is at least partly human nature. Many People love pointing out others flaws or perceived flaws but generally dislike it when their own are pointed out. “Do as I say. Not as I do.”
The culture we’ve created has taken what once was a minor fault inherent and natural to man and amplified it.
In fact many things and aspects in our modern culture deliberately amplify and glorify mans self-destructive behaviors, Vices and things that generally aren’t conducive to long term societal health.
I've made this comment before but I think it's worth repeating: When confronted with "whataboutism " I just reply that "whataboutism" isn't an actual word, and that the word they are searching for is precedent. Their side has set a precedent.
Example:
"Black Lives Matter! Defund police!"
"What about all the black-on-black violence, which is much more common than police-on-black violence?"
"Whataboutism! That doesn't count!"
