The declaration of independence considers the concept of inalienable natural rights, which are pretty much anything you can do on your own as a free human, without harming another person.

Life, liberty, pursuit of happiness, property and ownership, independent thought, free speech, social interaction and relationships, personal beliefs and values.

Beyond that there are rights granted by laws and traditions, such as habeus corpus which has been part of British common law tradition since 1166AD. But those aren't exactly basic rights, they depend on a functioning culture and legal system that values those rights. Which is why defending a culture that both gave rise to those rights and values them is very important because they are rare and precious.
