Did they still have Charles Chips? We lived there from '67 to '72 and I was right by the massive Vietnam antiwar protests on Grand Avenue in East Lansing. We kids could not play outside because of the teargas. I am sick of the whole, "We have never been so divided" mantra. BS, our country had a full blown civil war and within my lifetime I saw violence and chaos.
As a happy ex Michigander, I say fuck you Gretchen and I am glad I left. Although I do miss Bates burgers, Olga's Kitchen and Greek and Lebanese food.
Sadly they’re all out of business now
No, they are all still open.

"Bates Burgers Are Better"
I may drive to Michigan just to get Bates fix.
Swing through DC and I'll kick in for gas and buy us a couple dozen each.
Now I need to dig out my "Bates Burgers Are Better" shirt that's close to 30 years old.
Hahaha I'm in ohio. 3 hour drive to delicious bliss
