Being funny is also to be willing to self reflect and go 'yeah you got me'. They look to their overlords for what is acceptable and are unwilling to do otherwise for fear of being kicked out of their group. So their 'funny' is the 'safe' kind of funny but hard to do because of too many restrictions (ie cringe).
