The biggest leftist I know right now plays chess online all the time.
Unfortunately for him, he mostly plays while he's drinking and on drugs, so his ranking is abysmal (1500 on a good day) and he plays like shit--unless he's really reaching upwards he wouldn't ever be seen by people with these ratings. He openly admits that he mostly is playing children and morons, and no he hasn't thought about what that says about him at all.
Ironically, he actually used to be really good, winning some pretty serious tournaments back in the day and even getting some money for doing it.
