Actually it's not a communist utopia at all, they talk about a society in which people are literally free to pursue whatever the hell they want, and most people just try to better themselves, which in my opinion IS what we should be shooting towards, the quest for knowledge and wisdom, and even though capitalism is the way forward it's still just a stopgap.

You're both right in that it's not communism but also the system is predicated on a magic solution that is the ONLY reason why it "works." As with communism/marxism, the theory oversimplifies and underestimates humanity.

Ah yeah, no question about that, I believe that industrialism, and capital will always be a thing, there'll never be a magical machine that gives you something for nothing.

But capitalism as is will definitely not be forever, someday people will start to do things just to better themselves, they'll want to serve just to serve and not for personal gain(yeah I know some already do, but I mean in a very massive scale).

Not in our lifetime though :P capitalism is still the way to go as I said, for many hundreds of years.

There will always be scarcity of some commodity, whether that commodity is physical or an idea remains to be seen.

Right. The Star Trek universe is the supply/demand curve with supply=infinite.

No less plausible than ‘warp.’

Computing Forever is a star trek fan and he breaks down the argument on Star Trek and the Federation being communist. Long story short, its not...

Every week it was haywire technology, malevolent entities possessing people, war hungry nation states threatening the borders and security, refusing to help undeveloped worlds but then doing it anyways, etc.

No kind of future I want to be in.
