I got news for you, I've been boycotting Star Trek since about two episodes into the festering pile of shit that was Star Trek: Enterprise, and given how bad Star Trek: Voyager was, that was already probably years too long.

Star Trek: DS9 with the Dominion War and those amazing characters and actors both were the swan song of the franchise.

yeah Enterprise was actually good. Especially season 3 and 4. You should seriously watch those. Season 4 is sooooo much a love letter to TOS (minus the last episode)

Season 4 had a killer episode with augmented humans, explained why klingons had flat heads in TOS, and did an awesome mirror episode involving an episode from TOS with the tholians.

This is true. And DS9 was pretty rough as well until the actors and writers really fleshed out the more one-note characters and wrote out the ones they couldn't salvage.

Everyone always tells me DS9 is some of the best trek after "the first couple seasons" but I can never get past those first couple sesasons.

I don't disbelieve people, I just can't push through it.

Yeah I hated early episodes dealing with the leftovers from TNG like Keiko, who I never really liked as a character anyway but then as a whiney moody bitchfest blaming Miles for picking that job it just was even worse.

Kids on TV series are also stupid, and this one had both Jake and Nog with all their stupid "fish out of water" plotlines. Kira was a bitch and a half and while that was partly the point of her character, she took unlikable to new heights.

Basically nothing really worked on the show until

a) Worf joined, because both his character and actor are some of the best of Trek
b) They really leaned into Sisko's role as The Prophet. It went from touchy-feely new age spirit garbage to non-corporal beings at war with other beings, both using humanoids as their pawns
c) The Dominion. Yes it's basically to DS9 as the Borg were to TNG: a convenient but overwhelmingly scary/powerful bad guy... but it was really well done with a political/espionage side that obviously wasn't possible for Borg plots
d) Folding in old favorites like the Romulans but now as allies and expanding the Cardassians to be more than cheap Klingon knock-offs

I would say struggle through the first couple seasons by having it as background noise almost while you do other things and then hopefully you'll be able to tell when the action and plotlines pick up to give it your attention.

You should finish ENT. The first season is hit and miss, as all of them are...trying to find their footing. Second piks up steam, third is hitting on al cylinders and the fourth may be the bst season in all of trek.

How can you not love this shit?

I don't remember what set me off. Wasn't T'Pol some kind of space-lesbian that had to hide that from her people because it was like a capital crime or something? "Ooooo look the Vulcans are actually less enlightened than humans with their archaic views on sexuality!" Give me a break.

Berman and Braga have been forcing their gay agenda bullshit into the series for years and I frankly wasn't interested in sitting through more of it for the occasional cool science fiction adventure.

I did not mind Jadzia having the first lesbian kiss, however. In the context of a Trill changing hosts that actually was a plausible storyline even if it just happened to coincide with Sweeps Week. And it would have been really notable if they had done it ten years earlier with Dr. Crusher on TNG.

Uhhh...no. so youre telling us ENT was too gay for you? Was it the decon scenes or tpol and trips vulcan massage episodes?

I do remember decon gel lol I don't think I got into massage episodes. Just something about a plot involving T'pol that basically threw Vulcan lore out the window and I was like, ugh, no thanks.
