It's a process, for the guards - join the Marines, and during boot you take tests, and if you qualify for that kind of MOS, you're sent to the Marine Barracks in DC after infantry training - they staff places like Camp David, etc. The guys at the WH are the best of the best - they consider everything, including how you look. From what i recall, you're gonna do a lot of shit guard duty before being considered for the WH or any high level posts.
I think it's called "Yankee White", it's specialized training and you have to get specific clearances and such. Been a while since I read anything about it.

I think its treated roughly the same as embassy duty. It's considered a hardship post due to its nature, but it's still extremely sought after.
Spoken like a true garrison Marine.
