Supposedly he was gonna market his third party as the “true conservative ticket” and having Pence disavow Trump and run with him would hide the fact that Ryan was nothing more than a spoiler by granting said ticket legitimacy. Pence told him no and that he was gonna stick with Trump. This threw a wrench in Ryan’s plan as without Pence it would be obvious to everyone that he was running purely to sabotage Trump so that Hillary could win. Ryan never ran, and we all know how the election turned out.
Pence could have betrayed Trump right then and there and it would have been disastrous for the Campaign. But he didn’t, he was loyal to Trump through thick and thin and I could not have asked for a better Vice President.
