This is the style Trump should have delivered. Tempered. Rational. Rehearsed.

But Trump was never trained as a debater. I coach debate teams and Trump’s debate style is frustrating but that’s because he’s used to conversations in the boardroom as an executive or negotiations with other people. He has a totally different set of skills. He’s never going to be the poster child for debaters. But I don’t know why that should be a requirement to be president. That said, he could make a few small changes as to directly answering a question without accepting the question’s premise, and maybe he’ll do that this time.

This is the best analysis on Trump debating. I would only add that Trump's off the cuff nature can also deliver rare diamond bullets that would traditionally not be possible. Like "only Rosie O'Donnell"...

Kamala knows about polishing politicians!

sucking sounds intensify

1
Hodor124 1 point ago +1 / -0

I'm glad he's not a polished politician but I wish his debate style didn't turn off so many people, including those who support him. Doesn't matter if you're right on substance if you're constantly interrupting and talking over your opponent like its a boardroom negotiation. We like it but it turns off people whose votes we need to win.

Trumps style was perfect for Hilary who actually had a functioning brain and would try to go toe to toe with him. They’d get into it and he’d just talk over and end with a quip.

Joe just kind of mad dog barks and repeat what the voices tell him. Then at the end he gets some retarded last insult like dog faces pony soldier.

Trump has a f'ing day time job. Trump is disheveled because he's been in war for the past 3 years. Why wasn't Biden disheveled? Because he's a politician, he doesn't actually do things him self. Trump's debate was a real president vs a politician.

Bingo

Hodor124 4 points ago +4 / -0

We know. Biden interrupted too. Wallace let Biden interrupt but not Trump and made it a 2v1. The questions were framed with leftist bs. We all saw it.

However, all of that can be true and it can still also be true that Trump was too aggressive and needs to just tone it down one notch for next time. Pence had a good balance of knowing when to interrupt and knowing when to let the broad look foolish with her lies and political platitudes. I hope Trump was taking notes.

Me neither. It's why he got elected. He rocks. If he changed I'd be disappointed. In fact, I felt like he was tempered the other day and I hope he gets more room to roam next time.

14
WJKovax 14 points ago +15 / -1

Yeah fuck all that. I wanted A “Bill’s victims moment”.. I wanted a “you’d be in jail”. We didn’t get that. Biden was not pressured to denounce the 6 months of destruction by his supporters. He wasn’t pressed on Ukraine. Vintage Trump would have brought the Ukrainian prosecutor Biden had fired to the damn debates. I want bull in the fucking China shop, not the opposite.

11
Afeazo 11 points ago +11 / -0

The #1 rule in the Trump campaign before his election was "Let Trump be Trump". Being himself is what got him elected in the first place, why change that?

-6
GoldenPotatoRequiem -6 points ago +6 / -12

There’s a stark contrast between 2016 debate Trump and what we say here in the first debate.

In 2016 Trump was quiet for the most part, with the exception of some brilliant one-liners, such as the “you’d be in jail” one. He was cool and calculated.

What we saw in that first debate was Trump going way too lose. Yes, Biden did interrupt first, but Trump just made it all dissolve into a rambling mess between three people that was hard to watch.

20
DickTick 20 points ago +20 / -0

Because he is furiously fucking pissed off and rightfully so. He and his family would be in jail for the rest of their lives, as would many other people, if they had done even 1% of what Obama's administration did....

And one of the main fucking perpetrators was standing 8 ft away from him lying has ever loving ass off for 90 minutes.

I see what you're saying, but I believe there are a lot of people out there who knew what was going to happen before the debate, that it was going to be brutal. It is hard to say if it helped or not, but I feel Pence restored a lot of the calm and cool confidence back today, meaning that if there were some Trump voters that got scared away by the first debate, this would make them believe in our cause again.

DickTick 6 points ago +6 / -0

Because why? because you're holding it to presidential debate standards?

Do you want a fucking good leader who represents you and speaks his mind or do you want a good debater?

-2
GoldenPotatoRequiem -2 points ago +4 / -6

Of course I prefer a good leader you damn clown. I want him to be a good debater because I want to see him in office for another four years.

My2SonsAreMarines 1 point ago +1 / -0

All Trump's fault, eh Chris? or is it Joe?

0
GoldenPotatoRequiem 0 points ago +1 / -1

That’s not what I’m saying.

2
My2SonsAreMarines 2 points ago +2 / -0

...but Trump just made it all dissolve into a rambling mess between three people that was hard to watch....

That’s not what I’m saying.

Sure, Chris.

0
GoldenPotatoRequiem 0 points ago +1 / -1

What I’m trying to say is that while it wasn’t solely Trump’s fault, acting that way on stage made things no better for himself.

1
My2SonsAreMarines 1 point ago +1 / -0

Sorry, Chris. You did it to yourself. You interrupted Trump and Biden. You inserted yourself into the discussion instead of simply asking questions as and moderating the debate. You interrupted Trump 5x more than you interrupted Biden. Biden did the first interruptions of Trump and did so 3 times without any intervention from you.

It is no wonder Trump correctly observed that he was debating both you and Biden and he nailed both of you accordingly.

Just go away and find a safe space to play with yourself somewhere.

36
Wtf_socialismreally 36 points ago +37 / -1

Trump didn't prepare for being debated by the moderator too.

He got Joe to lose his composure and start name calling, when the left kept saying he doesn't sink to that level.

Trump proved them wrong.

rossagesausage 24 points ago +24 / -0

Trump is Trump. Pence is Pence. That's why they're the Dream Team, baby.

6
DickTick 6 points ago +6 / -0

Yeah for some fucking reason everyone here wants them to be good cop, good cop..... like that has gotten the Republicans so fucking far in the past....

Fuck that... I would have been God damn furious if he had walked out there all timid and quiet....

8
DickTick 8 points ago +8 / -0

Absolutely fuck that...

I didn't vote for someone to be fake and not themselves. We specifically voted for him because he is himself.

We don't fucking need good cop good cop.....

Mrsattorney 39 points ago +39 / -0

And Harris is just the opposite. I can't imagine her running the country.

20
nmipede 20 points ago +20 / -0

That's going to be the takeaway for normies, I'll wager. They know Joe won't ride out his term and she will assume the mantle. The way she answered the foreign policy question was especially telling, about asking Joe how to do it - because it intimidates her and she has no clue how to proceed.

She probably thinks it was a winning response, in fact it sounded scripted. Even if people didn't directly register that, it causes an uneasy feeling that something about what she just said is not good. It showed exactly how unprepared she is to do the job, and she's too obtuse to realize it.

14
rentfREEEE_since2016 14 points ago +14 / -0

“Foreign relations is just talking with people”

No, no it’s fucking not you hoe bag.

5
Covfefefefe19 5 points ago +5 / -0

Harris is a prosecutor at her core, and prosecutors need defendants and defense counsel. She can’t stand on anything she’s ever done, so instead she has to attack. If she won the vice presidency, she would have no idea how to defend her position.

3
Ragnar_Danneskjold 3 points ago +3 / -0

His rambling was a lot easier to take when Adam was there and there was a general fun chill atmosphere while talking about politics. The golden age of Timcast IRL was easy as fuck to just have on for 3 hours and never got boring. I don't like it now with the guests, and Tim's actual videos could be about half as long and be a lot more palatable.

1
Seanp12 1 point ago +1 / -0

It really depends on the guest, though. Scott Pressler was like having Adam back.
