There is zero required travel. Court is only in session for part of the year. And your law clerks do most of the heavy lifting. That's how these clowns stay on the court until they're 90. They basically sit there, listen, make up their minds based on oral arguments and then ask their law clerks to find case law to back up their reasoning.
While I think you overstated for effect, it would definitely be apples and oranges to compare the two positions.
But, I think the OP is off base with the concerns; and although such struggles might work well in a television sitcom about a female Supreme Court Justice raising a large family - it really doesn't equate well to real life because smart and dedicated people cope well with such things.
I don't share your concerns, it's not like ACB is coming onto the scene out of nowhere - she has been working in her profession for the better part 30 years and has garnered praise and recognition based on her merits and earned reputation.
I certainly don't think her gender or being a mother with a large family brings anything negative to the situation - I prefer real people with real lives over professional autocrats married to their positions of power.
RBG was near death a whole year or better and she somehow "functioned" on the court. It's obviously not stressful work, plenty of time off, plenty of staffers helping out at the court and at home.
A justice has a shit ton of clerks that do the actual work for the justice. This is a cush job and will be less demanding than any work she's currently doing.
ACB should fill the seat. She is already an accomplished judge, it says more about your lack of faith than her commitment to family if you think she would accept if it meant sacrificing family.
SCOTUS Justices decide the outcome and then have their clerks do the research and basic drafting to support their ore-conceived decisions. It’s a dog and pony show.
Besides, her older kids are old enough to help with the younger ones.
I appreciate all the feedback. This is the point of no censorship! The comments in here are valid and have shifted my thinking a bit.
Though look at the 4 female Supreme Court Justices (all the rest have been men):
Sonia Sotomayor... no children.
Elena Kagan... never has been married; no kids.
Sandra Day O'Connor... had three children but were ages 23, 21, and 19 when O'Connor joined the Supreme Court. She never had underaged kids as a Supreme Court Justice.
RBG... her daughter was 38 and her son was 28 when she became a Justice.
Not even close to the demands of being president.

Because appellate justice of the 7th circuit is a walk in the park?

Think about all the finger babies you've birthed and then think about the time youve taken to make this post
ACB has been functioning in the legal and judicial sphere just fine up until now. Why would a promotion drastically change anything?

This is actually a point of concern to me.
