Politics aside, it drives me crazy that we are getting FURTHER away from the goal of returning to normal. What, exactly, is the reason for moving to a virtual format after we have already had two in-person debates? Why are mask mandates getting more strict in places that have them? Why are shutdowns being extended?

This decision was a major blunder by the DNC/CPD (same thing) and is going to tell us A LOT about their internal polling. If Biden is truly ahead 21 points there's literally no reason for him to abandon this virtual debate idea because he gets all the control and teleprompters he wants. If Biden concedes and does the debate live, then you can bet your bottom dollar that their internal poll numbers are BAD and they are only doing it because they 100% need to try and get last minute support and generate enthusiasm. I think the DNC was hoping for at least one major win last night for Harris that they could use to gather more women and POC voters but she did so terribly their only line is #imspeaking and its just making Harris look like a bitchy, argumentative child. This virtual debate plan was set up with the idea that Harris had "won" the debate and Trump would be on the back foot and forced to participate.

Force the debate to set up a monitor, ala Max Headroom, with no direct feed to broadcast, make them set the monitor on a stool.

Virtual debate means Biden gets the questions in advanced, his interns write up the answer and then Biden reads what they wrote on a teleprompter.
The whole point of an in-person debate is to make it as fair as possible: just two people and their brains. Sure, it's possible to cheat anything. But an in-person debate is far more fair than two people on zoom calls, where Biden can set up his teleprompter and his earpiece and his IV stand with whatever drugs are temporarily keeping him lucid.
Trump needs to show up at the debate hall and give a speech next to an empty podium about how weak Joe is
