I am a California Pede looking to gtfo. I have an opportunity to move to Boise and am wondering what your thoughts are? I am afraid of Idaho turning into another California (insane housing prices, taxes, turning blue)

Move there and try not to sit on your ass when it comes to local politics.
Seems like a lot of conservatives didn't bother to participate in the places they run from, but instead are looking for a better place where they can sack-out until the leftists move there and gladly participate for them.
Places just dont "turn blue". Most of the time those people are just filling a void in civic participation.
My wife is from Boise and I've been there a bunch (from California, but I live in AR now).
Couple thoughts:
Even on the hottest summer day you can't get more than knee-deep in any of the beautiful lakes etc because they are ice-cold. That's kind of a bummer
Boise is pretty country, even the 'urban' parts. Country people have country ways. Not a bad thing but it's different from CA by a million miles
The hype surrounding the potatoes is real
You get a mix of NW Hippies and just Western Rural Folks in Boise and then it's just like a Marlboro Magazine Ad as soon as you leave a town
I live in Boise. It’s a great city. Idaho is a conservative state and will remain so for years to come. Boise has its liberal areas, especially the north end of Boise, but every big city has that aspect. My one piece of advise if you do move to Boise is to change you license plates quick.
It's great country out there. Iowa, Utah, Idaho, Montana and Dakota's

Boise is great. It is starting to drift in the Colorado direction for transplant reasons but it isn’t far gone yet. Also beautiful country with a moderate climate.
