I thought the CEO of Backpage pleaded guilty to state and federal charges and also agreed to testify against the two owners of Backpage: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/true-crime/wp/2018/04/13/backpage-ceo-carl-ferrer-pleads-guilty-in-three-states-agrees-to-testify-against-other-website-officials/

Have there been subsequent developments?

This is where the case went after Kamala had ridden off onto the Senate.

I believe I'm focused on prior events, quoting from the TDS-infected technology and law blog Techdirt. Deeper dive can be found searching their archives for Kamala.

Got it.

Do you know anything about her claim about prosecuting for-profit colleges that allegedly targeted veterans? The VP debate was the first I heard of that. I assumed it was campaign puffery and didn't believe much she said after she wheeled back her stance on fracking.
