Funny you mention it. Thinking back on this film, especially the slow burn establishing the town and its characters prior to the Vietnam scenes, I do believe they're exactly the forgotten Rush Belt Americans Trump appealed to.

Yeah same - I watched this despite how awful he is today, and he was amazing. But he absolutely hates the kind of men he played then and the people for whom that movie resonated. Hates the people who made his career, basically.
