There are lots of people that don't know much about politics or current events, and they decide to vote late, by looking up candidates the day they go vote. They search "Donald Trump" on their phone and see all kinds of crazy stuff about tyrant, nazi, impeachment, Russia, racist" and they get a negative impression and vote for someone that claims to be the opposite.
I don't know how many, but it does happen.
