Always has been. Until the oil boom, it leaned left due to the concentration of public workers and native groups. Once we got the oil boom, there was a boost to the R voting base since many people moved in that payed taxes.

They’ve been attempting to push it back left for a long time, but I think being an increasingly military heavy state bodes well.
